EG Arghyrakis & Co recruits Andrew Pearson

Three months after its launch, niche Shipping and Commodities practice E.G. Arghyrakis & Co has recruited a further solicitor, Andrew Pearson, to assist with the firm's growing caseload. Andrew Pearson joined the firm recently and specialises in “wet” shipping and marine insurance.

Andrew Pearson worked with Jardines, a leading London marine insurance broker, before qualifying with Waltons & Morse, where he obtained considerable experience of handling marine cargo, marine insurance, admiralty and salvage claims.

Pearson joined E.G. Arghyrakis & Co. not only to work for a small shipping practice but to work with lawyers who have a flair for shipping litigation.

“Although I continue to have great respect for the firms I have worked for in the past, this job is like a cold beer on a hot day”, he said. “I welcome the increased responsibility but, above all, I am glad to be with a firm whose business is 99% shipping related. I like to have the sea lapping at my desk, so to speak.”

Pearson is looking to develop the firm's marine insurance and admiralty practice, in relation to which he believes that his previous training as a Hull and Machinery broker will be useful.

George Arghyrakis, who founded the firm in January 2003, after 14 ½ years at Richards Butler, said “I am very pleased to welcome Andrew, who fills an important gap in our firm with his experience in Admiralty matters. Although we have never aspired to become a large fees factory, we appreciate being able to offer our clients a full service in relation to marine matters. Besides, we would not be truly international if we did not have at least one Englishman in our team.”
